It's about time this got started! Our sweet little man, Kaylor, is three months old, and I am starting to forget things from these three months already. So, I'm going to do my best to start documenting our days here. I'll start with just a few things about pregnancy and delivery. Not knowing what to expect and hearing experiences from friends made me a little nervous about the journey! However, I'm pleased to report that we really had a relatively easy time. Finding out his gender was quite a day! It was a cold and icy day in January when a lot of schools and businesses were closing down. I called the office and they told us to come on over for our appointment, so we took off in the Durango. We were supposed to have an appointment with the doctor after the ultrasound, but she called us while we sitting in the waiting room and said she was heading home. We started the ultrasound, and we loved our ultrasound tech! Everything was looking great, and it was time to find out the gender. She looked at the screen and joyfully told us that we had a little GIRL! I could see it all over Bryant's face that he was starting to get nervous. Then, out of the blue, she said, "Wait, I was wrong! It's a BOY! Yes, very definitely a boy." There was a little relief on Daddy's face at that point, and we started getting excited about planning for our baby boy. We would have been perfectly happy with a girl, but I think we were both secretly sort of excited that our first would be our little man. We slipped and slid home on the icy roads and started making phone calls to share the good news!
The rest of pregnancy went very well. Picking out nursery colors and bedding was so much fun. We felt so blessed by friends and family with 3 wonderful showers (at work, with Bryant's family in Glenwood, and with friends in Winston). My only little medical concerns were slightly high blood pressure and some retinopathy in my eye (just made for an annoying bright spot in my left eye). We even took a cruise, and I had no problems with motion sickness. I didn't really have any crazy cravings, even though my sweet tooth seemed to get a little stronger! Definitely had some crazy pregnancy dreams and was getting pretty uncomfortable with trying to sleep those last couple of weeks. My last day of work was the day before his due date. On his due date (Friday, June 21st), there were still no signs of him coming. Bryant was also off work that day, so we decided we would go ahead and get the fence staining done that we had been procrastinating on. After lots of walks that weekend (Riggins loved this!) and praying that he would come before our scheduled induction on Tuesday, I woke up feeling some small contractions on Monday the 24th. After a phone call to the doctor, we went on in to the hospital at around 10 that morning, and I was 3cm dilated. They checked me in to a room at that point. Things were moving along and getting pretty painful, so I had an epidural at just after lunch time (sweet relief!! ...even though it took 3 tries to get it placed well...ouch!). They broke my water that afternoon, and I was fully dilated by 7 that evening. After about an hour of pushing, little Kaylor made his appearance at 8:11pm. We had a little scare when they couldn't get his heartbeat on the monitor right before my last push, but he was just fine and healthy as he could be when he was born! His grandparents (Nana and G-Man) got to meet him that night, and we settled into our room for our first night as a family of 3!
